Medications
Keeping a note of when your next medication is due will ensure you do not exceed the stated daily doses and also guides the management of multiple medications
You may be given some of the following medications at the time of your surgery and upon your discharge
Paracetamol
An analgesic for pain and fever.
Ibuprofen
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for pain and inflammation.
Codeine Phosphate
An opioid analgesic for pain (this can be prescribed and used for ‘breakthrough pain’) eg. pain that occurs in under 4 hours and you are unable to take further Paracetmol or Ibuprofen.
Naproxen
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for post-operative pain.
Celebrex
a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for pain, fever and inflammation.
Tramadol
An opioid like-analgesic for pain. As Tramadol may make certain individuals feel nauseous, it is often prescribed along with Buccastem- an anti-nauseant (to prevent nausea).
Paracode
An analgesic for pain and fever (contains paracetmol and codeine phposphate).
Paradex
An analgesic for pain and fever (contains paracetmol and a synthetic opioid).
Norflex
An analgesic muscle relaxant for the relief of stiffness and pain.
