Meet Dr Satish Madhavarajan
Dr Satish Madhavarajan is a dual-qualified, UK-trained Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has recently relocated to New Zealand and is delighted to join the team at Anglesea OMS. He first qualified as a medical Doctor in 1995 and trained in India as a General Surgeon, where he was awarded a Gold Medal in General Surgery. His keen interest in head and neck surgery led him to work in Brunei with a dual-qualified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon who inspired him to become a ‘Maxfax surgeon’. Satish subsequently studied Dentistry at King’s College London (2010) and trained as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the UK and was awarded an FRCSEd (OMFS) in 2014.
With 30 years of surgical experience, Satish’s practice encompasses the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery including oral cancer diagnosis and early management, benign head and neck diseases, diseases of the jaws and teeth (dentoalveolar) surgery, complex wisdom teeth surgery, dental implants, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, lymph node biopsy and oral medicine including facial pain, mouth ulcers and lesions in the mouth and lips.
Sub-specialty interests
His main areas of special interest include salivary gland surgery, skin cancer surgery, dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants. He specialises in minimal-access salivary gland surgery having undergone specialist training in this area, including the removal of salivary stones and glands through minimal incisions. Satish is an expert in treating complex skin cancer and reconstruction, with a particular focus on complex reconstruction of the nose.
He was the skin cancer lead at Chichester UK, an ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) instructor and the educational lead for OMFS. Education is his passion and he takes any opportunity to teach. Outside of work his interests include his family – his wife, three daughters, their pets, a dog named Oreo and a ginger cat named Skittles. He is an ardent cricket enthusiast and loves to cycle. Reading books, politics and traveling are his other passions.
